Moeller Technique

Learn and Master Drums
The Moeller method, or the Moeller technique, was created by a drumming master Sanford A. Moeller in the 1920s. It is used to maximize the power, speed, and control of your strokes. The purpose of it is to help you play faster and more efficiently.

The technique uses a specific whipping motion of the wrist which allows the gravity to do most of the work. This way you conserve energy and produce great power using less effort.

The Moeller technique consists of three strokes – a down stroke or whipping stroke, a tap, and an up stroke. To have a better control of the sticks it's important to relax the hands. Stick control and bounce are crucial.

Learn The Moeller Drum Technique

In the following video a young and very talented drummer Tony Royster Jr. talks about different ways to develop speed. He also explains the Moeller technique:

Remember, it takes time and practice to learn it, so don't get discouraged to quickly. First, practice with each hand separately, then put them together in one sequence. Start slow and stay relaxed.

Stick to it and eventually you will be able to play at speeds you never thought possible.
