Brush Drumming

Ready to move from sticks to brushes? No problem. Drumming with brushes is wonderfully unique and totally different from playing with sticks. It's quite easy to learn, plus the brushes won't cost you much. Great for broadening your drumming horizons.

Brushes create very unique sounds that cannot be generated with sticks or mallets. They are usually used to play softer songs, but that's not carved in stone. You can play samba, if you want. See the video below, it sounds quite nice.

Today, manufacturers offer a wide variety of brushes. You could say that there is a different brush type for every style of playing. In any music store you're going to have a big selection to choose from. Among the top manufacturers are Vic Firth, Pro-Mark, and Regal Tip.

The feel of playing with brushes is very much different than playing with regular sticks. There are many different techniques of how to hold them and play with them.
